As I walked out one evening…

Posted in Universal Truth on December 31st, 2009 by Munira

As I walked out one evening,
Walking down Bristol Street,
The crowds upon the pavement
Were fields of harvest wheat.

And down by the brimming river
I heard a lover sing
Under an arch of the railway:
‘Love has no ending.

‘I’ll love you, dear, I’ll love you
Till China and Africa meet,
And the river jumps over the mountain
And the salmon sing in the street,

‘I’ll love you till the ocean
Is folded and hung up to dry
And the seven stars go squawking
Like geese about the sky.

‘The years shall run like rabbits,
For in my arms I hold
The Flower of the Ages,
And the first love of the world.’

But all the clocks in the city
Began to whirr and chime:
‘O let not Time deceive you,
You cannot conquer Time.

‘In the burrows of the Nightmare
Where Justice naked is,
Time watches from the shadow
And coughs when you would kiss.

‘In headaches and in worry
Vaguely life leaks away,
And Time will have his fancy
To-morrow or to-day.

‘Into many a green valley
Drifts the appalling snow;
Time breaks the threaded dances
And the diver’s brilliant bow.

‘O plunge your hands in water,
Plunge them in up to the wrist;
Stare, stare in the basin
And wonder what you’ve missed.

‘The glacier knocks in the cupboard,
The desert sighs in the bed,
And the crack in the tea-cup opens
A lane to the land of the dead.

‘Where the beggars raffle the banknotes
And the Giant is enchanting to Jack,
And the Lily-white Boy is a Roarer,
And Jill goes down on her back.

‘O look, look in the mirror,
O look in your distress:
Life remains a blessing
Although you cannot bless.

‘O stand, stand at the window
As the tears scald and start;
You shall love your crooked neighbour
With your crooked heart.’

It was late, late in the evening,
The lovers they were gone;
The clocks had ceased their chiming,
And the deep river ran on

The JAR

The Mayonnaise Jar

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle,
When 24 hours in a day is not enough;
Remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class
And had some items in front of him.
When the class began, wordlessly,
He picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar
And start to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full.
They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured
It into the jar. He shook the jar lightly.
The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. Read more »

I cannot Change

Posted in Self-discovery, Universal Truth on August 30th, 2009 by Just........ JUNO !!!

This is one statement we get to hear a lot from people around us. This is one line we use ourselves. Is this just a way of speech, a statement or a belief within!

A belief protected by ego, a frame of mind rigid enough to shatter a ray of hope, or a conclusion selfishly derived.

I don’t agree it’s a desired state of mind - it’s against human logic, it’s against the adaptability qualities we are born with, and it’s against the law of nature. As even trees - the least example of life - keep on changing throughout the year, fighting against winds, sunlight, dry patches and rains in order to survive.

If adjustment and adaptability is the key to move forward and grow, if that’s the basic principle of life to bloom after a dry season, then why we humans deny the inbuilt quality by restricting and limiting ourselves by locking up in a shell called ‘I cannot change’.

Dedicated to my Special Friends…

Posted in Self-discovery, Universal Truth on May 24th, 2009 by Munira

Sweet things are easy to buy,
but sweet people are difficult to find.
Life ends when you stop dreaming.
Hope ends when you stop believing.
Love ends when you stop caring.
Friendship ends when you stop sharing.

To love without condition,
to talk without intention,
to give without reason
and to care without expectation
is the heart of a true friend.

The 4 Hardest Tasks

Posted in Self-discovery, Universal Truth on May 24th, 2009 by Munira

The four hardest tasks on earth are neither physical nor intellectual feats, but they are spiritual ones:

1. To return love for hate.

2. To include the excluded.

3. To forgive without apology.

4. To be able to say,” I was wrong.”

I am speechless …….

Lies, lies and more lies!

Posted in Self-discovery, Universal Truth on March 7th, 2009 by Munira

Since we were kids we repeatedly read and heard that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was known as ‘Sadiq’ and ‘Amin’ even before he was awarded prophethood. We were told again and again that we should not lie. I guess all of us have heard the story that a man came to the Prophet and said I have got lots of faults but I can’t quit all, tell me one that I can and the Prophet told him to quit lying. A month later the man came and said he quit all his bad habits as speaking the truth made him realize how bad they all were.

While we grew up with these teachings, but by the time we enter adulthood we have relegated all these to tales of the fantasy land as we settle in our lives full of deceit and manipulation. We blame our leaders for it. Our leaders are from amongst us. If they lie on a national scale, break their promises and look after their own personal agendas – each one of us in our own small capacity is doing the same. How many around us try not to lie at all? How many times do we lie unnecessarily? Just ask yourself this question, and I’m sure the heads of all of us should be bent in shame. But the pity is, we lie and we feel proud about it.

If we look around ourselves, we find all different kinds of people and all different kinds of lies. People lie about anything and everything – their identities, education, occupations, marital status, children, location, income and even life problems. We learn to act and pretend in order to gain love, security, power, wealth, recognition, attention or whatever. We lie about our qualifications to get better standing professionally. We lie about our status to gain better societal placing. Men lie about their marriage to gain attentions of females. Boys lie about gender to get closer to the feminine sex. Divorced or abandoned women lie about their marriage to appear secure. Single women lie about marriage to appear wanted. Lots of people malinger physical or mental diseases to gain attention. People lie about the smallest things like not being home to the biggest deceptions like their family background and marital status etc. Have seen it all! Read more »

Home Sweet Home

“My own feeling is that we’ve pushed women too far,” says Dr. T. Berry Brazelton, the 80 year old Harvard University doctor who is frequently called “America’s Pediatrician,” in a recent interview in the Los Angles Times. “We’ve split them in two, and we have not given them back anything to support themselves on either end.” He has witnessed what forcing the women into the workforce and the breakdown of the family have done to the American children. “I just think our country is in deep, deep trouble,” he agonizes. Dedicated to innocent blood being shed

Posted in Pakistan, Universal Truth, World on March 4th, 2009 by Munira

A memorable song that always brings tears to eyes!

I’m dedicating it to the people killed in liberty and all those killed in acts of violence and terrorism – not knowing why they’re dying!
